More Hima Sinahi/Kalang

One of my favorite pieces that will not be for sale. It measure from the left hand to the right a little bit over 31/2" and a little bit over 11/2" thick at the middle. As usual, my orange spondylus inlay signature is very prominent on the top portion of the sinahi.

Hima and Saipan Spondylus

The above sliced hima was obtained on-line. This is to illustrate a fossilized giant clam shell. According to the site, if I am not mistaken, this hima is about 800,000 years old and it lived to be thirty years old in its natural biological life. Notice that the color is no longer white but a shade of caramel with outstanding grain display.

The above sliced hima was found right here on Sa'ipan. This too, is a very old hima clam shell. If carbon dated, I have a good feeling it might be over a thousand years since its death. This is about 7 inches in length.
