Sinahi

Sinahi in Chamorro basically means new moon; this is in reference to the phase of the moon.
Today, sinahi is refered to the cresent shape necklace of the Ancient Chamorro Society worn by men of high social status such as a Chief or a Maga'Lahi. The picture to the left illustrates the different shapes of sinahi that I carved from the giant clam shell (Tridacna Gigas). This medium was used in Ancient Chamorro Society to make the Sinahi necklace. I would like to direct your attention to the discolored sinahi on the bottom right hand corner of the display box; this sinahi is an actual piece, meaning it is an artifact that was carved by my ancestors utilizing the tridacna gigas shell. Should you have any information to add to this, please feel free to do so.
